Domestic Network

Japanese design administration on the governmental level centers on the Design Administration Bureau of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI). The Japan Institute of Design Promotion (JDP), the only one comprehensive design promotion organization in Japan, cooperated with International Design Association (disbanded in March, 2009) which is engaged in international exchange through the medium of design have been promoted by formation of promoting specific policies.

The Design Administration Bureau exercises control not only over JDP and the International Design Exchange Association but also over a business cooperative consisting of eight design organizations organized in accordance with the fields of design in which they are involved and design offices active throughout Japan. On the other hand, prefectural governments and municipal authorities with an interest in design have departments responsible for design administration, and they run their own design centers to implement their policies.

JDP is engaged in design promotion activities from a comprehensive standpoint while maintaining close relationships with these design administration agencies and promotion organizations as well as with economic bodies such as the Japan Chamber of Commerce, international agencies such as JETRO, and academic organizations such as the Japan Design Society.

Oversea Network

There are three International organizations related to Design, Japan Institute of Design Promotion has been developing the international activities in cooperation members of them all. Moreover, the Director of JDP, Mr. Nishiyama has also been appointed as the ICSID Executive (till July, 2013).
Besides, we also have a close cooperation relationship with design promotion institutions of Asian countries in recent years, In addition to the support of the design award, engaged in communication or co-hosts, such as exhibitions, seminars, workshops and international conferences.
