Reconstruction Projects

Specific efforts support economic and industrial rebuilding in Tohoku disaster areas. Local design projects receive assistance and promotion, and publicity keeps people informed of how the design community is supporting recovery.

ABOUT

Established by JDP in 2011, the Design Center for Reconstruction Assistance is a design-driven initiative supporting economic and industrial recovery in areas severely affected by the disaster. Designers and manufacturers in Ibaraki and the Tohoku prefectures of Akita, Aomori, Fukushima, Iwate, Miyagi, and Yamagata benefit from the Center's Area Aid Design Project, which introduces their design work and business, develops sales channels, and presents opportunities to create new business—through the Good Design Awards—at domestic and overseas exhibitions, and in other ways. Meanwhile, the Center keeps the public informed about design activities in disaster areas and how the design community is supporting recovery.
