Tokyo Business Design Award organized by Tokyo Metropolitan, planned and operated by Japan Institute of Design Promotion , is a new format design competition of new applications development and business design, on the theme of “Technology” and “Material” search from manufacturing and SMEs in Tokyo. It stated from last year, aims at the cooperation between designers and SMEs.

In recent years, in background of economic conditions such as the rise of Asian countries, strengthening the competitiveness of product, brand building, to make active use of design is becoming more important. In order to produce high originality products with the high technology of small businesses their selves, it is necessary to bring design into companies as one of the management strategy.

With perspectives from designers, Tokyo Business Design Award performs support for commercialization and commercialization for the winner who creative new possibility for “Technology” and “Material” of SMEs. Presently, the 2^nd of 2013 Tokyo Business Design Award is call for companies.
