Since Japan Institute of Design Promotion was launched as public interest incorporated foundation as of June 1, 2011, Mr. Kazumasa Nagai has served as the first chairman. 

As of April 1, 2013, Mr. Motomi Kawakami has succeeded the role and been appointed as the new chairman. Mr. Kawakami has been working especially in interior, product and environmental design area since 1970's and he is one of the design master who represents Japanese design industry.
