The Tsubame-Sanjo region in Niigata Prefecture is renowned as the "Metalworking Town."
The craftsmanship and spirit of manufacturing cultivated by its predecessors have seamlessly blended with design, resulting in numerous remarkable products. Early adoption of design in product development has contributed to product differentiation and the establishment of unique brands. As a result, many small and medium-sized enterprises in the region have risen to become top-tier brands within their respective industries.

Since the first Good Design Award was won in Niigata Prefecture in 1966, over 1,000 awards have been received, with more than 80% awarded to companies in the Tsubame-Sanjo area. This achievement ranks among the highest nationwide, excluding major metropolitan areas where large corporations are headquartered. Beyond the numbers, this accomplishment reflects long-term success: some companies have been awarded continuously for over 40 years since their initial win, and many past award-winning products remain in production and are still sold today.

This exhibition highlights award-winning products from the Tsubame-Sanjo region, including those from the 2024 Good Design Award and previous years. Some of these items are available for purchase at “GOOD DESIGN STORE TOKYO by NOHARA” on the 3rd floor of KITTE Marunouchi and at “Ginza Niigata Information Center THE NIIGATA” in Ginza Suzuran Street. We encourage you to experience these products firsthand and discover something that may become a cherished part of your daily life, enriching it for years to come.
