Japan Institute of Design Promotion Signs MOU with Taiwan Trade Center
On September 27, 2024, the Japan Institute of Design Promotion (JDP) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Taiwan Trade Center (TAITRA), marking the beginning of a collaborative effort to promote design initiatives.
TAITRA, established in 1970 with the support of the Taiwanese government and industry associations, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting Taiwan's foreign trade.
The MOU signing ceremony took place during the opening event of "2024 TAIWAN EXCELLENCE in TOKYO ft. GOOD DESIGN AWARD," where JDP President Hiroyuki Fukano and TAITRA President and CEO Walter Yeh formalized the partnership.
Additionally, for the first time, products awarded both the GOOD DESIGN AWARD and the Taiwan Excellence Award were showcased together at the event, offering visitors an opportunity to experience these award-winning Taiwanese designs firsthand. A pop-up store featuring Taiwan Excellence products was also set up at GOOD DESIGN STORE TOKYO by NOHARA, allowing attendees to purchase the showcased products during the event period.
On September 28, a talk session was held under the theme, "Design That Enriches Lives," featuring top designers from Japan and Taiwan, including Mr. Gen Suzuki and Mr. Joe Fang, along with Mr. Steven Ko, CEO of O’right, a company recognized by both the GOOD DESIGN AWARD and Taiwan Excellence. The session provided insights into the role of design in enhancing daily life.
In addition, under the theme "Excellence in Products That Brighten the Future," elementary school students presented their creative ideas on stage and received feedback and advice from Mr. Suzuki and Mr. Fan.
