[Philippines]The 2nd Good Design Award Philippines selection held in Manila
The screening session for the 2nd Good Design Award Philippines, organized by the Design Center of the Philippines(DCP), was held on June 1, 2024.
The Good Design Award Philippines, held every two years, was established to discover outstanding Filipino designs that embody malasakit (Tagalog for "compassion") in addition to universal design values. This year, a total of 204 entries were received in all four design categories (Object, Image, Place, and Systems/Service), and after heated discussions, 24 entries were selected as winners. From Japan, Mr. Shunsuke Ishikawa, a member of the GOOD DESIGN AWARD jury and Founder of KESIKI INC. participated as a member of the GDA-PH jury.
The Grand Prix, Malasakit Award, was awarded to The First United Building: Renaissance of Place. The First United Building is an adaptive reuse project of a historic building in the Philippines. Almost 100 years after its construction, it now houses an incubator for creative startups, an artist-run bar, and a coffee shop. The jury members strongly sympathized with the project's attempt to organically reuse the building as a new place for diverse people to connect and highly praised it as a model for urban revitalization that connects history and the next generation.

JDP signed a cooperation agreement with DCP in 2014, and established the Good Design Award Philippines in 2019 with the support of the ASEAN-Japan Centre. After a temporary suspension due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we officially started cooperation in judging and operation in 2022.
GDA-PH award winners may skip the first round of the GOOD DESIGN AWARD 2024 and start participating in the second round.
In addition, the GOOD DESIGN AWARD winners will be exhibited at the GOOD DESIGN EXHIBITION 2024 to be held in Tokyo from November 1 to 5, 2024.
We will continue to contribute to the development of design promotion in the Philippines through cooperation in judging and promotion.
