The 2nd Good Design Award Philippines selection held in Manila
The screening session for the 2nd Good Design Award Philippines, organized by the Design Center of the Philippines(DCP), was held on June 6, 2022.
The Good Design Award Philippines was established to discover outstanding Filipino designs that embody malasakit (Tagalog for "compassion") in addition to universal design values. This year, a total of 150 entries were received in all four design categories (Object, Image, Place, and Systems/Service), and after heated discussions, 11 entries were selected as winners.
Along with the judging panel observation, Japan Institute of Design Promotion (JDP) also visited the 2018 Good Design ASEAN Design Selection award-winning companies and designers to observe the status of their businesses after receiving the awards.
The Good Design ASEAN Design Selection is a two-year joint project between the ASEAN-Japan Center and JDP from 2017 to 2018, which aims to share the Good Design Award's concept of "good design" with the ten member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), and to propose solutions to social issues, inheritance of traditions, and industrial development through design.
JDP signed a cooperation agreement with DCP in 2014, and established the Good Design Award Philippines in 2019 with the support of the ASEAN-Japan Centre. After a temporary suspension due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we officially started cooperation in judging and operation in 2022.
We will continue to contribute to the development of design promotion in the Philippines through cooperation in judging and promotion.
