Airport-style duty-free shop "Japan Duty Free GINZA" opens in Mitsukoshi Ginza

Japan Institute of Design Promotion (Chairman: Motomi Kawakami) announces the sales of Good Design Award products at "Japan Duty Free GINZA," the airport-style duty-free shop to open on the 8th floor of Mitsukoshi Ginza Store (4-6-16 Ginza, Chuo-ku, Tokyo) on January 27, 2016. Japan Duty Free GINZA is Japan's first-ever (outside Okinawa) airport-style duty-free shop for foreign tourists and those leaving Japan by air. It exempts the shoppers from paying consumption taxes or other taxes. Designed with nature motif, the shop provides the comfort of distinctively Japanese space and embodies "omotenashi (hospitality)" spirits with multi-lingual guidance, Interactive Zone where visitors can experience Japanese technology, and more. "The 800 hands Japanese Beauty" zone displays the winning designs of Good Design Award. The award has created and enriched people's life through good design for almost 60 years and thus its winners have been chosen to represent Japan's superb quality items in this shop. Meaning "numerous hands of artisans," The 800 hands zone is consisted of four corners, one with Good Design Award products and others with themes "Tokyo handiwork," "traditional crafts" and "industrial product." The zone also introduces the images of the producing regions and digital art, so that the guests from around the world can feel the Japanese aesthetic senses, making the shop "the place of memorable trip and shopping experience."
