Good Design Awards

Inheriting the Good Design Product Selection Program instituted in 1957 by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry, the Good Design Awards ("G" Mark program) constitute a uniquely comprehensive program of evaluating and advocating design. The annual Good Design Awards program not only sets forth competitive parameters for the physical beauty constructed, but serves as an organ that can broadly publicize design embodiments hoping to advance industry and improve our quality of life, such embodiments discovered through a review process across the many circles that encompass our lives. This globally unmatched program in terms of history and scale receives the participation of hundreds of companies and designers in Japan and from other parts of the world each year.

Alliance with Design Excellence Award of Kingdom of Thailand
In March 2008, the Thailand Government established the Design Excellence Award, a design promotion program like the Good Design Awards. Concurrently, JDP, who provided support to the award program establishment, and the Department of Export Promotion of Thailand signed a cooperation agreement between the Good Design Awards and Design Excellence Award. A wide range of collaborative activities has taken place for the Design Excellend Award program since then, in the form of sending judging committee members, holding an exhibition in Japan, and judging recipients for a Good Design Award.

Good Design Awards ASEAN Selection
The ASEAN countries offer numerous, exquisitely designed products that incorporate regional materials, technology, and lifestyle culture. The Good Design Awards ASEAN Selection introduced these outstanding designs to the business world and consumers in Japan. Under the support of METI, this joint project with the Japan ASEAN Center, an international association, was implemented from 2002 until 2005. During the three-year period, nearly 350 designs of 220 companies submited entries, and consequently 145 designs from 114 companies received the Good Design Award ASEAN Selection.
